Plot A Story With Soul

Develop JUICY characters and plot with a system that makes drool-worthy stories happen effortlessly.

Plot Problems are Always Character Problems

We’re often taught to develop plot and characters separately, and then somehow...reconcile them. But keeping them separate is exactly why authors end up with wooden characters and wandering plots. You probably recognize a few of these problems:

  • Your plot just feels like a series of disconnected events

  • Your main character feels like a different person every few chapters

  • The middle of your story flounders

  • All your characters sound the same

Here's How You Really Get Good Plot

The truth is, great plot emerges out of rich, motivated characters:

Step 1:  Make characters ripe for change
Step 2:  Squeeze them with conflict
 Step 3:  Get story juice

But how do you build plot and characters together without it turning into a sticky mess?
After helping thousands of writers through my YouTube channel and developmental editing work, I've bottled up the exact system to fix this.I call it Story Juice. It weaves character development and story design into one process, so your characters write your plot for you, and you end up with a JUICY story.

What you’ll create

Characters That Hook Readers

Build characters who are so compelling, readers are emotionally invested in everything that happens to them.

Scenes That Crackle With Conflict

No more dead pacing. Engineer your cast so that every time they show up in a scene, something happens.

Plot That Moves

Generate plot pressure from your characters' decisions, so the stakes keep rising and the story keeps progressing.

A Story That Stays With Your Readers

Weave your protagonist's inner journey into the plot itself, so the story hits with real emotional force.

What's Inside The Curriculum

Module 1: Building Your Cast

Before you can build a plot, you must build characters capable of sustaining one. This module moves away from static character sheets and establishes the foundational rule of story design: characters are not people—they are agents of conflict. You will establish the central tension of your narrative and design a cast specifically built to clash over it.

Lesson Plan:

  • 1. Characters Built From the Ground Up: Why planning a story is more like painting than engineering, and the mindset that will help you build a better story without losing your wild ideas. Course overview, materials needed, scope.

  • 2. The #1 Thing Authors Get Wrong About Characters: The paradigm shift this entire method rests on: characters are not fictional people — they're agents of conflict. Why this reframe changes every story decision you'll ever make.

  • 3. Finding Your Story's Big Issue: How to distill your story into a single-sentence premise that reveals the central conflict everyone in your world has a stake in. The organizing axis your characters will be built around.

  • 4. Characters as Walking Agendas: Brainstorm your cast as a set of conflicting opinions about the Big Issue. Why a character's primary role is to be an agent of conflict.

  • 5. Backstory With Purpose: The one job of backstory: to justify a character's opinion with a plausible motivation. How to reverse-engineer backstory that supplies story logic, so the reader buys what's happening.

  • 6. The Test Drive: Put two proto-characters with opposite opinions in a scene together. You'll discover two things: how conflict creates plot, and how scene-writing in the early stages can help clarify your characters.

Module 2: Deepening Your Main Character

Characters stick in our minds when they are logically consistent no matter what situation they are thrown into. In this module, you will uncover the core of your main character and major supporting cast, locating the exact drive that makes them who they are and explains everything they do.

Lesson Plan:

  • 7. What Is a Story?: Stories are arcs of change. The 3-act structure explained from first principles, and how to make the stakes really matter in a story.

  • 8. Choose Your Main Character: How to identify which character has "main character energy" — and how to think about your choice from the perspective of maximum reader immersion.

  • 9. The Core of a Character: What makes a character stand out, and why it has nothing to do with their quirks. Introducing the Core Drive: the baseline urge that makes a character logically consistent in every scene.

  • 10. Finding Your MC's Core Drive: An exercise that drills all the way down to your character's single motivating force. Fully worked examples included. This is where your main character gets a soul.

  • 11. The Inner Conflict: Core Drive vs. Core Need: Name the direction of personal growth that will characterize your story's inner arc, and see how the tension between what they want and what they actually need becomes the seed of every external conflict in your plot.

Module 3: Supporting Characters and Plot

This is where characters start writing your plot for you. You will use all the sources of conflict you've developed to generate relevant scenes. Finally, you will take those scenes and organize them into a complete structural map, giving you a clear blueprint for your manuscript.

Lesson Plan:

  • 12. Supporting Character Core Drives: The difference between minor characters (walking agendas who pop in and out) and major supporting characters (who need souls to sustain conflict for the long haul). How to build the latter — with a full worked example.

  • 13. The Pressure System: How to generate actual story scenes from your characters' collisions. Three types of conflict — personal, extra-personal, and psychological — and how to use all three to build a cause-and-effect chain of plot beats that escalate toward the climax.

  • 14. Organizing Your Story: Take all your generated plot beats and slot them into a 3-act structure built around your MC's inner arc. The "dresser drawer" method for organizing story without losing its heart — with specific beat landmarks for each act.

  • 15. From Here: Where to go once your story map is built. How to iterate on the process to fill gaps, deepen what you have, and arrive at a story you're confident enough to start writing. Plus: the full worked example story outline, available to download.

  • Love stories with genuine, meaningful change.

  • Want a process they can return to again and again.

It is not for authors who:
